Curious how much you have written so far? Text statistics help you track your writing progress.

View Your Statistics
You can view statistics not only for individual sheets, but also for groups, projects, and more. Here’s how:
Sheet Statistics
- On Mac: Open the dashboard by clicking the dashboard icon in a sheet or pressing
⌘4. Then select the Progress tab. - On iPad/iPhone: Open a sheet and tap the gauge icon. To see more details, tap the statistics overview at the top of the dashboard.
If you select part of the text in the editor, the statistics for that selection will be highlighted in blue.

Project Statistics
- On Mac: Open the project library and click the Statistics button to view the data.

- On iPad/iPhone: In your project's library, tap the ⓘ button and select Progress.
Group Statistics
- On Mac: Right-click a group and choose Statistics… from the context menu.
- On iPhone and iPad: Touch and hold the group, tap Get Info, then select Progress.
Tip: On Mac, you can also view statistics for the Notes section and Global Filters such as All. Simply right-click the filter or section title to access the option.
Counter
To keep an eye on your statistics while writing, you can also enable a counter in the editor on your Mac and iPad.
- On Mac: Go to the top menu bar and select View › Show Counter.
- On iPad: Go to Customize Editor (via the circled ellipsis in the editor) and activate this option under View Options.
Once enabled, the counter appears in the top-right corner of the editor. You can adjust what it displays, for example, show the word count instead of the character count. To change the displayed parameter, click or tap the counter to open the full statistics, then select your preferred option.

Norm Page Settings
Ever wondered how the dashboard calculates your sheet length in pages? It’s based on a “norm page,” which by default uses 60 characters per line and 30 lines per page. If you prefer a different page length, you can customize this calculation:
On Mac, open the dashboard and click the settings icon in the bottom-right corner of the Progress view. There, you can adjust the Characters per Line and Lines per Page values to fit your preferences.

On iPad/iPhone, touch and hold a group, tap the ⓘ button, select Progress and then tap the gear icon in the upper right corner.

Calculation of the Reading Time
The reading time shown in the Progress tab of the dashboard is calculated by dividing the total word count as follows:
- Slow: words ÷ 3
- Average: words ÷ 4
- Fast: words ÷ 5
- Aloud: words ÷ 2
Please keep in mind that reading time is just an estimate, not an exact measure.
The statistics don't account for your chosen export format, so the number of exported pages may vary depending on the export style you select.
